Basketball Showcase 2017

SECOND ANNUAL LAKEPOINT BASKETBALL SHOWCASE The Showcase will be held Saturday, December 16 at the LakePoint Champions Center EMERSON, Ga. (June 20, 2017) – LakePoint Sports is proud to announce it’s second-annual LakePoint Basketball Showcase on December 16, 2017 held at the state-of-the-art LakePoint Champions Center. The Showcase will feature eight of the region’s premiere boys’ basketball programs in four consecutive games throughout this action-packed Saturday afternoon. The one-day event includes one school from both Bartow County and Douglas County, two schools from Paulding County, three schools from Cobb County, and one school from Tennessee: Cass, Lithia Springs, Lassiter, North Cobb Christian, Allatoona, North Paulding, Paulding County, and Chattanooga (TN) McCallie. The teams will bring top-level talent from around the state and surrounding region, which will create an exciting and true championship atmosphere inside the Indoor Pavilion. The Showcase will kick off at 3:00 PM with Cass taking on Lithia Springs. Led by Head Coach David Brock, Cass finished last season with a record of 18-8 before being bested by Paulding County in their Region Tournament. Lithia Springs, coached by J.W. Cantrell, went 15-12 in their 2016-17 season and made it to the first round of the state tournament before falling to eventual 5-A State Champion, Buford. The second game of the day consists of Lassiter and North Paulding. Lassiter Coach Ben Kitzrow and North Paulding Coach Ryan Dyer met twice in the 2016-17 season with Coach Dyer and his Wolfpack edging out Lassiter both times by a combined score of 7 total points. This matchup should be intense as the rivalry continues. The 6:00 PM matchup will feature North Cobb Christian School and Paulding County. After an impressive 26-4 record and Elite Eight appearance, Head Coach Greg Matta is eager to get his NCCS team back in the mix for a State Championship. Paulding County is led by Coach Kevin Hammitt and is also motivated to build on last season’s success. The PC Patriots posted a 11-18 record, but had some late-season momentum as they fell in their Region Championship and competed with Miller Grove (who went onto the Final Four) in the 5-A State Tournament. The night-cap will feature two of the region’s most successful teams in the last 5 years; Allatoona and Chattanooga McCallie. Coaches Markus Hood and John Shulman have done tremendous jobs in building respected and talented programs that compete for Championships each season. The Allatoona Bucs and Coach Hood earned 21 wins last year and were three-points away from playing for the 6-A State Championship here in Georgia, while McCallie and Coach Shulman posted a record of 29-9 and was runner-up in the Tennessee DII Class AA State Championship. This game will be an exciting ending to the LakePoint Basketball Showcase. Over the next few months and weeks leading up to the Showcase, we will be releasing Match-Up Previews for each of the four games, highlighting key players and things to look for in each of the day’s games.
